Dingle Scramble - Uphill, Wet and Muddy

Dingle scramble

So what's a Dingle we hear you ask? The word "Dingle" is derived from the Welsh word 'Gour' meaning a shaded area, or "Gorge". The stream within flows from the 'springs of the 5 saints' high up in the hills behind the centre. Our Scramble follows the stream uphill and is about 3/4 of a mile (1.2km) in length, rising over 500ft (150m).

On entering the gorge, which in the year 600AD marked the Eastern boundary of the ancient kingdom of Brycheiniog, you are immediately confronted by a series of natural and man made obstacles, which are spread out along the length of the scramble. These include logs to climb over and under, tubes to crawl through - some with and some without water (including one at 40ft [12m] in length!), cargo nets to crawl under, tyre tubes to negotiate, as well as a challenging 30ft (10m) climbing and abseiling tower half way up the course. There are also a series of tasks to test your mental and physical skills.

The stream flows within the vegetated gorge, which has a magical feel. There are legends of mystical creatures and beings said to be living within gorge itself.

Be prepared to get wet and muddy with this uphill challenge. Experienced and friendly instructors accompany you all the way, helping, encouraging and inspiring you. All safety equipment is provided. A change of clothing and a wash kit is essential, as are sturdy boots or wellies (a selection of wellies are available if required). Showers are available at the centre.
